Firstly, Sputnik Sweetheart was translated by a different dude than the guy who translated the other two Murakami books I've read, which isn't something that I'd normally mention except that, well, I could kind of tell! The young and naive Sumire is in love for the first time in her life, so it did not matter if the object of her affection is Miu, an older married woman. As a writer, I love the sentiment in the passage above, and though Sputnik Sweetheart was compelling plot wise, after reading Dance Dance Dance, it was something of a letdown. I finished Murakami's Sputnik Sweetheart yesterday - another brilliant narrative though I'm worried that I don't quite get his crazy moments. Sputnik Sweetheart Illustration.
